Tips for Caring for Yourself Energetically

How often have you said you "feel drained" or you "do not have the energy" for a particular activity or event? This language reflects an understanding of the energetic nature of our lives. The body is not simply a machine. It is a series of energy centers that allow us to function physically, mentally and emotionally. Understanding how to care for ourselves energetically is part of maintaining our health and wellness. The tips that follow can help you better care for yourself energetically.

 

1. Cultivate energetic self-awareness.

Caring for oneself on an energetic level begins with self awareness. Do you know how you feel when you are in a good place energetically? How do you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally when you are refreshed, recharged, when your energetic cup is full? Knowing who you are, how you feel and how you move through life when all is well energetically will help you recognize signs of low energy. Try keeping an energy journal, noting the times of day, people and environmental factors that impact your energy. Chances are you will begin to notice a pattern.

 

2. Learn how you recharge.

Being an introvert or extrovert is not just about personality - it is about energy. True introverts recharge from spending time alone - completely alone. True extroverts gain their energy from being around others. Learn whether or not solitude helps you recharge. Also, learn what kinds of activities and environmental factors refuel you energetically, and which ones deplete you energetically. Make a list of the things in life that bring you joy and happiness. Do these all involve being around others? Are there activities you can do alone that bring you joy? Also note how often you are able to engage in these activities or do these things for yourself. Make time for the things that recharge you.

 

3. Prepare for energetically challenging situations.

Chances are you already know the people in your life who challenge you energetically. These are not always people you should or can avoid. The best you can do when dealing with energetically challenging or draining people or situations is to be prepared. Take extra-good energetic care of yourself prior to engaging energetically challenging people or putting yourself in energetically challenging situations. Also, find a way to cleanse any unwanted or negative energy from yourself or your space. Try smudging.

 

4. Live in alignment.

Most people do not realize they cause themselves energetic disturbance when they are not living in line with their true nature or spirit. Some of us are not even aware that we have a true nature or spirit, as we have not taken the time to explore our personal ethics or honor codes or to really explore what we - at our core - want for ourselves in life. Living out of alignment can cause energetic disturbance as we are constantly seeking internally to bring our lives back into balance. Try meditating on how your job and your relationships with family, friends, co-workers fit into the vision you have for yourself and your life. Make adjustments where necessary.
